Certainly, the world is in a state of transition. Even before we can substantially close out the response to the pandemic, our life and our society are already changing. We are all adjusting how we do things without even waiting for the tragedy to be over.

We’ve been here before.

At different levels, we’ve been here before. Many aspects of our lives changed after the attacks on our country on 9-11. Most of those changes involved increasing our security. Quite a number of those changes came from utilizing technology to improve safety while trying to minimize the impact on our freedoms.

We are facing the same thing today but on a grander scale. This time, the COVID-19 Pandemic has impacted EVERY aspect of our lives.
The response to the problem and the increased security we will need going forward, no doubt will rely heavily on science and technology.

The path forward.

We are all looking for increased safety, better communications, smarter ways of delivering products and services, and breakthrough health care responses – just to name a few. In short, we will be looking at every aspect of our lives to find ways to make things safer and more efficient.

There’s little question – Technology, Engineering and Medical Science will be leading the way.

Safety improvements, medical treatments, efficiency breakthroughs, and service improvements are all likely to come from some sort of technological improvement or breakthrough.

Ultimately, this means we are going to be relying on technology and software even more than we were before the start of the pandemic. That’s hard to believe since technology was already touching almost every aspect of our lives.

What we’ve (hopefully) learned.
But if we’ve learned anything from what has unfolded over the past several months, it HAS to be that we cannot rely on foreign governments to look out for our interests. The news has been full of stories of overseas interests causing the pandemic problem, covering it up, buying critical healthcare supplies, controlling supplies of other goods and medications, etc. We are not looking to debate the political response or the possible motives of foreign nations in looking out for their people. But the reality is we need to be able to rely on ourselves going forward.
And if technology and software development is going to play such a large role in improving our ability to respond to future crises (as well as the changes in our everyday lives), then we need to be sure that we are self-reliant when it comes to building technology and developing the needed software.

We write it all here in America – not in the big cities, but in the small and mid-sized towns where work ethic and American pride are still at the center of what people do.
